The former director of Tata Sons ltd, Past President AIMA, an author and corporate advisor, R. Gopalakrishnan launched his two books, "The Made in India Manager " and "Crash" at an event organised by Coimbatore Management Association (CMA) here on Friday.
Coimbatore: The former director of Tata Sons ltd, Past President AIMA, an author and corporate advisor, R. Gopalakrishnan launched his two books, "The Made in India Manager " and "Crash" at an event organised by Coimbatore Management Association (CMA) here on Friday.
The book " The Made in India Manager " authored jointly by R.Gopalakrishnan and Ranjan Banerjee elucidates on the making of Indian professionals like Sathya Nadella, Indhra Nooyi and Sundar Pichai and how the they became big influencers globally.
"The definition of ‘made-in-India manager' applies to those who have pursued their basic education and graduation in India till the age of 18 or even little later”. And, does not corelate with people of Indian-origin, born and raised abroad. There are more Indian CEOs than any other nationality after Americans in S&P 500 companies", the book quotes the a study by executive search firm Egon Zehnder.
Speaking on the occasion, the author talks about how growing up in India makes Indian Managers successful than others. "Navigating the challenges in the country, while growing up endows distinctive capabilities in made-in-India managers,” said R.Gopala krishnan.
The former Tata group director made a comparison between India and China, where China exports things and Indians export ideas. The author also threw light on the secret ingredients of Indian-born managers including their 'familiarity with the English language', 'surviving in a hyper-competitive environment' and 'developing a high degree of adaptability' which he has also mentioned in the book.
The author also briefed on how tough it is to get admissions in India's premier institutes. He stated “N.R. Narayana Murthy once told CBS News in 2003 that his son could not get into IIT but went on to study at Cornell in the US".
Following the speech by the author, a panel discussion was held with panelists R. Gopala Krishnan, D.Vijaya Mohan, Founder, Pricol Ltd and Dr.D.Srinivasan, Psychiatrist, KMCH.
